Step 6 and 7 with a twist: Include multiple perspectives

  1. In Step 6 and 7 with a twist, students would have the opportunity to actively become engaged by giving their perspective on a given topic. It opens up the floor to hear other's opinions and learn something along the way. A student's conversation with another student can be the best learning tool. One can feed off of another's comment. We do this all the time in staff meetings and/or grade level meetings. Also, it teaches students to be respectful of another person's opinion.

  2. I'm looking forward to using the note-passing strategy in science and math class. I think the students will enjoy the activity while gaining a variety of perspectives. Students have gotten an opportunity to experience a different point of view in some of my math lessons. When a student, who usually struggles in math, shows a good understanding of a concept, I ask him or her to teach it to someone else. That gives the novice a chance to be the expert. I enjoy seeing confidence grow and enthusiasm rise.

  3. I would like to use the strategy of Written Conversation during social studies class. It would be good for everyone to hear each others perspective about a given topic.

  4. Including multiple perspectives is so important in the classroom. Just as my teammates have mentioned, it is important to build up the confidence of some of the struggling students by emphasizing their strengths. This helps them want to voice their perspective more and have the confidence to do so. Children need to practice listening to others viewpoints and agreeing or disagreeing without being "disagreeable". It is important for students to find out that it is okay to have a different perspective than others and important for them to be able to voice their thoughts.
